2017 Proposed Bylaw Changes
Share |

GMIS Members,

The GMIS International Board is proposing a series of bylaws changes in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the GMIS International Board. These changes were developed and proposed by a Bylaws Committee and were unanimously approved by the GMIS International Board to present to the membership for a vote. A summary of the bylaws changes is outlined below. There are also three documents to help you understand the proposed changes. The documents are the current GMIS Bylaws, the Proposed GMIS Bylaws (with track changes) and the Proposed GMIS Bylaws (with track changes accepted). Over the past few years GMIS has seen incredible growth in both membership and benefits to our members. We believe this new board structure will foster further growth and allow for better board succession and attract new members to the board.

As the new changes involve new definition and division of board responsibilities the GMIS International Board is also recommending a transition period of 1 year to implement theses changes. In order to complete the transition period, a suspension of the bylaws governing the election process is also being requested. This suspension will allow for the current GMIS International Board to stay in their positions for one additional year and to not hold officer elections in 2017.

This approach was determined after significant discussion within the Bylaws Committee and the GMIS International Board. It was determined this would provide better continuity and would be the least disruptive implementation for the organization. It also provides an opportunity to finalize all corresponding policy and procedure changes in an orderly manner without jeopardizing the initiatives and programs currently underway.

These proposals were also reviewed with the State Chapter and Associate Organization Presidents in the regularly scheduled monthly conference call.
