Number of IT staff: 2
Population: 30,000

Q. What has been a significant technology achievement for you or your organization?
A. Consolidation of IT departments when Princeton Township and Princeton Borough were combined into one community renamed Princeton.

Q. What future Initiatives are you hoping to accomplish in the next year?
A. We are developing a one call center so residents can call one number. This call center will have a knowledge base so the operator and look up their questions and provide an answer without having to transfer the calls to a department. They can also put work orders in for DPW and other departments as necessary. We are connecting all 13 locations with fiber to enhance network for all buildings. We are in the process of virtualizing 21 servers. We are installing multi meters in our Princeton University district for parking.

Q. Best advice you could offer your fellow members?
A. I would say my best advice ... don’t feel like you’re out on a limb all by yourself. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your peers. If I could add up all the years of experience of our GMIS members, it would be in the hundreds of thousands! No vendor or consultant could offer that for the membership fee Princeton pays. Every time you put something out on the list serve, the knowledge you are getting back is coming with all those combined years of experience. What better advice can you ask for?!
