International Education Conference

PAST YEARS MATERIAL

2007 Conference - Sparks/Reno, Nevada

“Managing the Technology Stampede” was the theme for the 2007 GMIS International conference held in beautiful northern Nevada.  With the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains as a backdrop more than 260 attendees, speakers and exhibitors from around the world availed themselves of the full educational program and extracurricular activities.  A full-day information security boot camp rounded out a speaker roster that was highlighted by multiple keynote talks addressing such topics as emerging technologies, data security and the role of CIO as a superhero.

A golf tournament and sightseeing tours of Carson City (Nevada state capitol) and Virginia City were daytime offerings.  Besides a welcome reception and several hospitality suites, evening activities included a dinner and dance cruise to Emerald Bay on Lake Tahoe and a dinner and tour of the Harrah’s National Automobile Museum.

2006 Conference - Charleston, South Carolina

GMIS2006 Conference was held June 25-28 in Charleston, South Carolina. The conference offered the 200 attendees great speakers, great food, and great events. Speakers including the New Orleans CTO talking about the Hurricane Katrina aftermath and Mike Veeck explaining why "Fun is Good!" in our jobs were two of many memorable sessions. Monday night's Dinner on the Harbor cruise and Wednesday night's Carolina Beach Party, each with live entertainment, highlighted the Conference's social events. The only complaint heard was too much good food!

The Conference had an international flair with 10 international guests.  For the first time ever, the local government technology representatives from eight different countries met. The speakers also had an international flavor with a speaker from the University of Calgary.

2005 Conference - New Haven, Connecticut

What do vendors say about the conferences?
       2004 Wichita, KS

2004 GMIS Conference Solution Providers / Vendor List

The 2004 GMIS International Conference will be held at the Marriott Hotel in Wichita, Kansas, June 20-23, 2004.  The theme of the conference will be GMIS in Kansas – Reap a Harvest of New Ideas and will focus on the technical and management issues confronting government agencies.

An important part of the International Conference is the participation of hardware and software solution providers, especially those with experience in the Government sector and who anticipate providing government-oriented equipment and solutions in the coming years.

In recognition of the contribution that such vendors make, the 2004 conference featured an hour and half vendor-focused event in addition to the usual “vendor visit” opportunities between the educational break-out sessions.  If you would like to participate in this year's conference and are considering exhibiting your products, please contact the GMIS vendor representative named below as exhibition space is limited.

2003 Conference - Salt Lake City

2003 GMIS Conference Solution Providers / Vendor List

Hello Fellow Members of GMIS,

I want to give you a quick report on the progress that we here in Utah are making toward our annual International Educational Conference that will be held June 22 -25, 2003 in Salt Lake City at the beautiful newly remodeled Little America Hotel.  The underlying theme of the conference is Inter-governmental Collaboration.  Our focus will be on overcoming barriers to cooperative IT initiatives between agencies and departments. Our planning committee is composed of coordinators for the major components of the conference.  They are each doing an excellent job and progress is good at this point.  We have a general outline of the education program with several slots yet to be filled.  The activities / entertainment program is coming together.

The accommodations are set with room rates ranging from $75 to $119.

We finalized the registration fees in our last meeting.  They are:

GMIS Members          $300
Late Registration        $350
Non-Members            $425
Member's Guest          $65
Golf                            $35

More detail to come when our web site comes up at the end of this month.  Be watching right here for the link.

Now for your part.  As I read the many good discussions about products and vendors that you all recommend and we all use, I think what great relationships most of us have with our vendors.  Do them a great big favor and invite them to participate in the conference.  Don't take no for an answer.  You spend big bucks on their services so they should show their support for you and your GMIS organization.  And it is really to their benefit anyway.  Our Vendor Registration System for the conference is fully functional and we are currently taking registrations.  Attached is the complete vendor information / registration packet (in Word) that you can give to your vendors.  So please talk to them and help them get registered.  Now is the time while they are planning which events next year to participate in.  Any questions can be directed to me or our Vendor Coordinator, David M. Willis (Dave's contact info is in the packet).  More updates will be coming.  Stay tuned.
