GMIS International
Announces Annual Public Sector IT Award Winners
GMIS International is pleased to announce
its 2007 public sector IT award winners. The awards were presented last
week at the organization’s annual conference in Reno/Sparks, Nevada.
The annual event was attended by over 250 members and IT vendors,
including ten international delegates from as far away as New Zealand.
Dan
Furlong, Project Management Officer, Office of the
CIO at the Medical University of South Carolina received the
MIS Annual
Professional Award. Mr. Furlong was nominated by his
boss, Melissa Forinash who states, “Dan has been the cornerstone of our
Project Management program since 2003, where he serves as an agent of
change. He is a respected leader in our department of nearly 200 and
has intelligence, integrity, fortitude and tenacity!” This annual
award recognizes IT professionals whose meritorious performance is
representative of service delivery excellence in the public sector.
Marc Pfeiffer, Deputy Director, State of New
Jersey Department of Community Affairs, was recipient of the
Hershel Strickland
Ambassador of the Year Award. GMIS International
Executive Secretary John Moody announced the award and stated, “Marc
epitomizes the essence of GMIS – that of sharing knowledge and
experience among our members.” This annual award recognizes a GMIS
International member who recruits the most new members in a year.
Art
Holdsworth, Deputy Director, Management and
Budget, Oakland County, Michigan, was recipient of the annual
President’s Award. Outgoing President Linda Curley of
Monroe County, New York announced the winner and stated, “Mr. Holdsworth
received the President’s Award for his outstanding contributions and leadership in the
development of the Michigan State Chapter and for serving as its First
Charter President. The President’s Award recognizes an
individual who has made outstanding contributions that promote the GMIS
organization.
The
New Jersey State
Chapter of GMIS International was recipient of the
2007 Chapter of the
Year Award. The New Jersey Chapter was recognized for
its rapid growth, vital educational programs, and support of GMIS
International. Chapter President
Michael Esolda,
CIO, Township of Woodbridge and Woodbridge Township Board of Education,
was recognized for his leadership of this dynamic State Chapter.
Newly elected GMIS President Bruce Miller
of Salt Lake County, Utah, congratulated this year’s award winners and
stated, “We have the cream of the crop of public sector IT leaders as
members – all working hard to improve government service through the use
of technology.”

international sister organizations in six countries,
GMIS International is the largest
professional organization for public sector IT leaders in the U.S.
